Purebred Suffolk Sheep

Set on a small farm in Chatsworth, Ontario, Stonehill Sheep is the home of a purebred flock of Suffolk Sheep. Our sheep are the product of lifelong breeding work by Glen and Judy Porteous, with over a decade of partnership with Paul Dick and Tina Harrington.

We sell some stock off the farm, but much of our best stock is sold each July at the CSBA’s All Canada Classic Show and Sale. Our stock is in demand with purebred breeders and lamb producers who value high quality productive terminal rams. They are shipped coast to coast. You will have the best luck getting stock if you contact us in May and June. However, we usually have one or two ewes or rams available in the fall for those who identify a need later in the season.

News from the Farm

  • WE WERE DELIGHTED WITH THE RESULTS OF THE ALL CANADA CLASSIC HELD IN BRANDON LAST JULY! OUR FALL LAMBS TOOK CHAMPION EWE AND CHAMPION RAM AWARDS. WE WERE ALSO AWARDED THE GENOVIS GRAND CHAMPION EWE AND RAM AWARDS FOR TERMINAL SIRE BREEDS.

  • WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO TAKING OUR BEST YOUNG STOCK TO THE CANADIAN SHEEP BREEDERS ASSOCIATION’S ALL CANADA CLASSIC TO BE HELD IN PICTOU, NOVA SCOTIA THIS COMING JULY!!

  • We are now using three stud rams, Arkell Valley 90G (tattoo AVS 90G), STONEHILL 2L (tattoo SHF2L) and Stonehill 10M (tattoo SHF 10M), for breeding this. We are expecting outstanding results with these rams.

STONEHILL 97N is our purebred Suffolk fall ram lamb shown here at about 75 days. He has continued to grow and develop. Recently we got back the Genovis results for his 100 day weight and loin ultrasound. He had outstanding results with a Carcass Index that was outstanding and puts him in the top 10 with Genovis lambs in proof so far this season. We plan on bringing him to the ACC at Pictou. Contact us if you want to see his Genovis certificate.
